2025 Art by the River – A Plein Air Art Contest
August 23 & 24, 2025
· Applicants must complete the following entry form and make the $25.00 payment through the online application on the Gibson Gallery website.
· Registration opens on July 7, 2025. All applications must be received by August 17, 2025.
· The registration fee is non-refundable. $25.00 per person.
By entering the Fort Malden Guild of Arts and Crafts Art by the River Plein Air event, you affirm that you have read and understand the terms and conditions outlined herein.
Rules and Guidelines
Terms and Conditions
1. The first place winner will receive a $300 reward prize. The second place winner will receive a $200 reward prize. The Third place winner will receive a $100 reward prize.
2. Canvas stamping is required to participate in the event. Stamping will be available at Gate 1 by a Plein Air Committee member. Gate 1 is at the visitor centre at the Fort on Laird Ave.
3. Any medium is acceptable but MUST be applied by the hand of the artist at the Art by the River event only.
4. Your artwork MUST be produced outdoors, in the spirit of Plein Air, in the Art by the River grounds.
5. All artwork must be presented framed and ready to hang for entry into the judging.
6. Sizes 16x20 framed and under will be accepted.
7. Registration for the event opens at Gate 1 between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM Saturday August 23. Registration closes at 9:30AM. Any applicants that arrive after the registration deadline will not be accepted.
8. Hand in time will be between 1:00 PM and 1:45 PM Sunday August 24 at the barracks back porch. Judging will begin at 2:00 PM. Any applicants who do not hand in by the deadline of 1:45 PM will be declined for judging.
9. Applicants may hand in one piece of art for judging.
10. Applicants must be present for judging and mandatory Gallery drop off following the judging. The drop off will be at The Gibson Gallery 140 Richmond Street Amherstburg ON. N9V 1G4. Failure to drop off will result in forfeit of prizing.
11. Gibson Gallery retains 20% of all sales proceeds of artwork sold that is being displayed during the Plein Air exhibit.
12. Images of artists participating, and artwork produced during the Art by the River Plein Air event may be used for festival publicity.
13. Gibson Gallery activity room will be used to display artwork which was produced during the Plein Air Art by the River event. Reception for the event will be Sunday September 14, at 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM where winning applicants will receive their prizing. Prizing will be announced at 3:00 PM Artists may pick up their work after 4:00 PM.
14. Artists may not sell anything on the Art by the River grounds. Art can be sold while hung in the Plein Air exhibit at The Gibson Gallery.

You understand that the FMGAC will not be responsible for bodily injury or loss or damage to artwork regardless of the cause. You understand that the FMGAC is not responsible for the loss, damage or theft of equipment. You also agree that images of work that you enter into the event may be used by the FMGAC for publicity purposes.
